I graduated in 2018 from University College Cork. I studied a wide range of fields including: genetic manipulation of plants, biostatistics, geology, zoology, plant pathology, plant physiology, plant identification, climate change, evolutionary ecology and plant biomolecules.
I continued my studies with a Post-Graduate Certificate. This course added to my existing biology skillset. Topics of study included pharmaceutical formulation and design, sterile processes, validation, quality control, quality assurance, regulatory compliance and risk managemnt.
Throughout my studies I supported myself through work in the hospitality industry. The highlight of this adventure was my time at Soup Ramen in Dún Laoghaire, Co. Dublin. During my time I helped propel the new business forward and we were nominated for best new restaurant in 2018 by the Irish Times.
This paper dicusses the possiblity of cultivating tea (Camellia sinensis) on a large scale in outdoor farms in Ireland. Various factors are explored, including climate, soil conditions and rainfall. The roles these factors play in the physiology of the plant are discussed. Recommendations for propagation are given, backed up by experimental data. The most promising regions of Ireland for tea cultivation are highlighted.
Link Coming SoonA "how-to" guide on the production of Nurofen Plus tablets. This report details the physicochemical properties of the active ingredients (codiene, ibuprofen) and excipients. Production techniques used to make the tablets are discussed, including notes on formulation, stability, safety & efficacy, bio-availability, incompatabilities and quality control.
Terra coração is a sustainable and ecological community in Sintra, Portugal. I got involved with this project through Workaway. I lived here for two months working on the agro-forest, caring for the animals and doing some construction. I offered advice on ways to generate income for the land moving forward. We agreed to establish eco-tourism using Air-bnb Experiences. Check out a video by my friend Nofi who visited while travelling through Portugal: https://youtu.be/DyeoFUREsNU
I initiated a project to set up a large garden for pollinating insects which will also act as a communty space. The garden will include native and wild plants and trees to support bees and wild pollinators, as well as solitary bee nesting sites and boxes. This project is supported by Accenture in collaboration with ChangeX and the All-Ireland Pollinator Plan. On-going surveys will be contucted to monitor the effect on pollinator diversity and abundance.

This organisation writes proposals to the Irish government to change the legislation surrounding waste management. I joined to offer my skills and knowledge in Plant Biology. I recently helped write a submission to the European Commission in response to proposed changes to the Waste Shipments Regulation. These changes will affect the ultimate fate of our recyclable waste in the EU. How much actually is recycled? How much is shipped to developing nations? And how much is incinerated?
